Until the Christmas break Mr. Clarke will be taking a leave from Jack MacKenzie School. During his absence I will be covering for him in the office. Consequently, I would like to welcome Mr. Don Lee to our school community during this time to cover my assignment. Don is a recent immigrant to Saskatchewan from Alberta because his wife, a banking executive, was promoted to a new role in our fine city. Don brings a wealth of experience to our school. In addition to teaching elementary, junior and senior high school in both regular and special needs settings with Edmonton Public Schools, he has also been a Special Needs Coordinator, Department Head, Curriculum Coordinator, Counselor, Assistant Principal and Principal with that district. Don may seem familiar to some of you as he has been working as a substitute teacher with Regina Public Schools since last November and has even taught at our school several times over the past year. We look forward to sharing all that Jack MacKenzie has to offer with him over the next month.

Conferences on Friday, November 18th, 2016
Nov 14, 2016
Dear Families,
On November 18th, 2016 we will be conducting our first student/parent/teacher
conferences. This is an important day for staff, students and families as it
offers an opportunity to review your child’s assessment results and to plan for
student growth for the remainder of the school year.
Conferences are an integral part of assessment
and learning. For this reason we dedicate the entire day to this process. Students will only attend school at the
time of their conference on Friday, November 18th, 2016.
New for this year, there will be no formal
report card in November. At the conference teachers will share our
Value Added Assessments like the RAD and Oral Running Records (ORR). You will also have an opportunity to examine
your child’s Personal and Social Growth Rubric. You can track your child’s other assessments
on Parent Portal.
We realize employers are aware that
all Regina
schools conduct conferences and they have been very supportive of these
important appointments. We appreciate
your attendance at the suggested times, however, if it is impossible to attend
at this time please contact me by email at
kelley.reoch@rbe.sk.ca or
phone the school at 791-8585 and I will make every effort to adjust the
schedule.
%------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are invited to meet with your child and Mrs. Reoch, on Friday,
November 18th, 2016 at 8:00-8:15 am.
Please sign and return as soon as
possible.

Why Do We Wear a Poppy?
Thursday, November 3,
2016
Dear Jack MacKenzie Families:
As you are all aware, November 11 is Remembrance Day.
On November 11, 1918 at 11:00 am, the First World War came to an end. It lasted over four years, killed or injured nearly 30 million military personnel and devastated some of the world’s biggest empires. It changed the future of people, countries and continents. Canada’s contribution was significant, unprecedented and costly. The country came out proud and victorious, while mourning the loss or injury of 250,000 Canadians. Throughout November, we REMEMBER.
We honour those men and women who fought in various conflicts, so we are able to live in a country that is safe and free. The poppy is a symbol associated with Remembrance Day and shows that we are thinking about and honouring those who bravely fought for us. It is important that everyone knows the meaning of wearing a poppy.
As a sign of respect for our veterans, everyone at Jack MacKenzie School will be provided with a poppy to wear for Remembrance Day. We are asking all students to bring a Toonie donation for this poppy prior to the Remembrance Day ceremony which will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. If every student brought just $2.00 for their poppy, our school would raise over $800.00 for our veterans. Let’s all work together to show honour and appreciation for our veterans.
Sincerely,
Jack MacKenzie Staff.
